Policy Number: #400
Responsible Executive(s):
- Senior Vice President and CFO
Responsible Office(s):
- Physical Plant and Campus Safety
Date Adopted: 03-01-2007
Date Revised: 01-01-2021
A. Purpose
It is necessary to have emergency custodial services to respond to bodily fluid spills.
B. Scope
BG Service Solutions does not have staff members on campus during the following hours:
- Week Days from 7 – 11 p.m.
- Fridays from 7 p.m. through Saturday 7 a.m.
- Saturdays from 3:30 p.m. through Sunday at 7 a.m.
- Designated Holidays
Therefore, the following protocol shall be followed in the residence halls for clean-up involving bodily fluids during BG Service Solutions “off hours.”
C. Policy
When possible, Residence Life staff will either contain the fluids by covering with Vo-Ban (provided by Physical Plant to staff offices), or by limiting access to the area (i.e., locking down a bathroom). The Residence Life staff member will also notify Campus Safety who will then leave a voice mail message for BG Service Solutions and also directly inform the custodial staff via the pass-on log at 4 a.m. the following morning. Campus Safety will also call Physical Plant at x4944 to request a follow-up work order number. Finally, the Residence Life staff member will inform the Associate Director of Housing Operations via voice mail by 8 a.m. the following morning.
Situations which are not possible to contain include blood on carpet (before it dries), or bodily fluids in the area that cannot be restricted, such as a stairwell or in the middle of a residential hallway. In these cases, the residence life staff member will cover the area with Vo-Ban and contact Campus Safety, who will then notify the Assistant Director of Performance Contracts (Mark Forbes). Upon determining the need for emergency clean up, s-he will contact BG Service Solutions to clean the bodily fluids at the contracted hourly rate for overtime. If the clean up is excessive, Residence Life will be charged $75/hour. The Residence Life staff member will also notify the Associate Director of Housing Operations via voice mail prior to 8 a.m. the following morning and Campus Safety will call Physical Plant at x4944 to request a follow-up work order number.
If the Assistant Director of Performance Contracts is unavailable, then Campus Safety will call the following people in the order listed.
- Director of Operations, Physical Plant
- Resource Conservation Administrator
- Associate Vice President of Physical Plant/Capital Projects
