Ignatian Spirituality Program at Regis University
The Ignatian Spirituality Program at Regis offers group opportunities, individual spiritual direction, and the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life in the tradition of St. Ignatius of Loyola. All who seek to deepen their relationship with God are welcome.
Our Spiritual Directors help directees pay attention to their own experiences of God acting in their lives. Spiritual direction facilitates growth in relationship with God and a fuller integration of that relationship into one’s life. Spiritual direction necessitates regular time spent with God in prayer and a willingness to share that experience monthly with the director.

Our History
The Ignatian Spirituality Program was started in 2004 by Fr. Stephen Yavorsky, S.J. as a Denver-based outreach of Sacred Heart Jesuit Retreat House. Its mission was to make the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola available to members of the Denver-area Jesuit apostolate and others. The program began by offering LightWorks, a 14-session group introduction to Ignatian spirituality and the Spiritual Exercises, and individual spiritual direction. It quickly grew to include giving the full Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life to individuals and a subsequent program to train spiritual directors and guides of the Spiritual Exercises. Fr. Yavorsky served as the program’s Director for eight years and built up a team of spiritual directors who lead the Program.
In 2012, Paula Sapienza became the second director of the program and the first lay person to direct it. She stayed in the position of director until 2018 when the third program director was hired. On Jan. 1, 2014, the Jesuits of what used to be the Missouri Province, now the U.S. Central Southern Province, transferred sponsorship of the Program to St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church, making the Program an official ministry of the Parish. The Program offices and meeting spaces were located in the St. Ignatius Loyola Family Center.
In Sept. 2023, the UCS Province of the Society of Jesus announced their decision to leave St. Ignatius Loyola Parish after running the church for 99 years. On July 1, 2023, the administration of the parish was turned over to the Archdiocese of Denver. The Ignatian Spirituality Program found a home under the Office of Mission at Regis University.
