Jeff Ogle

Dr. Jeffrey Ogle earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of California, Irvine, in 2008.  As an undergraduate, he attended the University of Denver, from which he graduated with his B.A. in Philosophy in 2001.

Dr. Ogle’s areas of interest include Phenomenology, Continental Philosophy, Ethics, Applied Ethics, Personhood, and Philosophy of Religion.  At the intersection of most of these interests, he has made a close study of human agency and, more narrowly, ethical agency: of the deep nature of each and of its preconditions.  Recently, Dr. Ogle’s work has focused on self-constitution, from a phenomenological point of view, and on the nature of the phenomenological point of view itself.  His dissertation considered whether this point of view is essentially solipsistic.  (The answer is “no.”)  He is also interested in the related issue of the role temporality plays in the constitution of the (meaningful) world, and how it comes to play that role.  He has written on the dispute between Martin Heidegger and Emmanuel Levinas regarding the latter issue.
