Trudi Wright

Dr. Trudi Wright is an Associate Professor at Regis University in Denver, Colorado, where she investigates Musical Theater History, American Music, and World Music with her students. One of her current teaching techniques calls on her background as a classically trained singer to inform her work in the classroom. Her experiences with her students led her to write, “Engaging the Community: A Public Speaking Performance Class,” which was published in 2018 by Palgrave in The Performing Arts as High Impact Practice.

As an active musicologist, Wright has presented research based on her investigation of the Depression Era musical Pins and Needles (1937-1941), at the national and regional meetings of the American Musicological Society, College Music Society, and Society for American Music. Her 2016 article, “Lost in The Cradle: Marc Blitzstein’s ‘FTP Plowed Under’ (1937),” was published in American Music (Illinois University Press).

Attentive to the ever-changing landscape of teaching music history, Wright is currently co-editing an essay collection, Sound Pedagogy: Radical Care as Social Justice in Post-Secondary Music. Her writing for that book focuses on the Jesuit principle Cura Personalis (meaning care of the whole person), and its relationship to students, faculty, and our academic communities.
