Shawn Anderson

Shawn Anderson believes nursing is more than a profession; it is a calling to serve others in their most vulnerable time and a responsibility to be a voice for those who cannot speak. After starting her career as a pediatric nurse, her desire to provide care to children and their families prompted her to earn her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) with a Family Nurse Practitioner focus from Regis University. Ms. Anderson has over 20 years of pediatric ICU and emergency care experience and 10 years of adult medicine practice. Her education and clinical experience allow her to care for patients across the life span. She fancies herself as a womb to tomb nurse.

Ms. Anderson felt a calling to enter nursing education and participate in the next generation of nurses' training. Over the last 20 years, she has taught students in the clinical, laboratory, simulation, and didactic settings. Using the concepts of magis (to do the more, the better, the greater) she wishes to inspire students on the values of quality care and nursing excellence, asking students “what kind of nurse do you want to be?” Ms. Anderson believes active learning, practical application and the value of life long learning all assist in the journey toward excellence. The Regis values of “ How ought we live?” and “Leaders serving others” are imbedded in her teaching, professional and personal life. Ms. Anderson doctoral project focused on the use of the affective domain of learning and its impact on the provision of compassionate care by nurses.
