Samit Shah

Dr. Samit Shah serves as the Dean of the Regis University School of Pharmacy. Prior to this position, he served as the Sidney J. Weinberg Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Affairs at the KGI School of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (KGI SPHS) in Claremont, CA. In this position, he oversaw all academic aspects of the pharmacy program at KGI and led development of new programs in the areas of human genetics, genetic counseling, and the nation’s first master’s degree program in genomic data analytics. He also helped in fundraising efforts that led to a gift of $1.5 million for the development of these programs. Dr. Shah also served as the Assistant Dean and Department Chair of Biopharmaceutical Sciences at KGI SPHS. 

Dr. Shah’s scholarly interests include chemical biology, instructional design and assessment, and the clinical implementation of pharmacogenomics. His research has been published in journals such as The American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education, Currents in Pharmacy Teaching and Learning, Angewandte Chemie, Journal of the American Chemical Society, Nature Protocols, and Nucleic Acids Research. Dr. Shah has authored multiple book chapters in the area of pharmacogenomics and presented on this topic to a number of audiences including pharmacists, genetic counselors, physicians, medical students, and other health professionals. His teaching interests include medicinal chemistry and molecular biology. He has received the “Teacher of the Year” award multiple times at both the KGI SPHS and the South University School of Pharmacy.

Dr. Shah earned a BS in Pharmacy from North Gujarat University, a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), and an MBA from South University. He received post-doctoral training at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has completed the Academic Leadership Fellows Program (ALFP) offered by the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy. Dr. Shah is a licensed pharmacist and has previously worked as a PRN pharmacist and pharmacist-in-charge at Rite Aid Pharmacy and HealthQwest Clinic, respectively.
