Megan Murphy

Dr. Megan J. Murphy is Professor and Associate Dean of the School of Mental and Behavioral Health in the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions at Regis University. She is a Clinical Fellow and Approved Supervisor of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. In the past 20 years, she has taught courses in marriage and family therapy on topics including ethics, diversity and social justice, family therapy theories, assessment, and trauma. She has particularly enjoyed supervising Master’s- and Doctoral-level students.

Dr. Murphy has co-edited (with Dr. Lorna Hecker) Ethics and Professional Issues in Couple and Family Therapy (2nd ed.), published by Routledge in 2016. Most recently, she co-edited (with Dr. Rebecca Harvey) Handbook of LGBTQ-Affirmative Couple and Family Therapy (2nd ed.), published by Routledge in 2021. Her research interests include power in relationships, diversity, feminist issues, ethics, LGBTQ issues, and narcissistic abuse.

Dr. Murphy has served in several professional service roles, including Commissioner for the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education, the Region I Representative for the Indiana Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, a member of the Iowa Board of Behavioral Science, and Chair of the Institutional Review Board at Iowa State University.
