Dr. Claywell is a servant leader and considers meeting the needs of others foundational to each of her roles. She believes that nursing education must contribute to the development of a just and compassionate world through caring nursing practices that place the highest priority on the needs of others. She believes that caring for the whole person and providing appropriate opportunities for learning and growth enables people to change the world. Dr. Claywell believes educators must create change, by not only innovating and leading but also by supporting other change-makers in their work. She believes in reflective practice and in conducting research to generate new knowledge to guide advancements in nursing and education. For years Dr. Claywell has studied and presented widely on best practices in online and hybrid course delivery models and methods specifically related to improved student outcomes. Dr. Claywell's book, LPN to RN Transitions, is used throughout the United States as a foundational textbook to support Practical/Vocational Nurses who are returning to school to become Registered Nurses. Dr. Claywell's practice manifests the philosophical nexus of both Caring in Nursing and Adult Learning Theory.
