Eve Passerini

Eve Passerini is a Sociologist; the Director of Regis College Integrative Core; a founding member/director of the Center for Integrative Learning; and an Associate Professor in the Department of Anthropology, Sociology, and Criminal Justice. Her teaching and research interests include structural racism and how communities teach history in the face of racial oppression, environmental justice, the social construction of gender, and barriers and incentives for growing resilient, sustainable communities. She developed and implemented Regis programs in Integrative Studies and Racial Justice, and helped develop the programs in Leadership and Environmental Studies. Dr. Passerini’s courses range from basic courses like “Intro to Sociology” to Core courses like “That’s Garbage” and “Global Childhoods” to a travel learning course called “Woke in Alabama,” and back again to “Research Methods.” Most research with students has been Participatory Action Research with and for community groups. Her whole education has been integrative, with an undergraduate Science degree in Environmental Education from an interdisciplinary program, and a PhD in Environmental Sociology with dissertation work on human behavior in natural disasters and sustainable communities. Along the way, she also founded and directed a community peace and justice organization, was a K-12 substitute teacher, taught HIV/AIDS awareness to at-risk teenagers, was a social worker for abused and neglected youth and teens, taught literacy skills to adult prisoners, taught ecology and environmental education to rural and inner city adults and youth, was a board member of a local environmental organization, and was a wildlife rehabilitator for the CO Dept of Wildlife (bottle feeding absurdly cute baby raccoons, squirrels and chipmunks). She is committed to research, teaching, and mentoring that aspires to the Regis mission of work that “builds a more just and humane world through transformative education."
