Elisabeth Moolenaar

Dr. Elisabeth Moolenaar teaches anthropology and sociology in the Sociology, Anthropology and Criminal Justice Department at Regis University. In addition, she serves as affiliate faculty in the Masters of Development Practice program. She has held previous teaching positions at the Colorado School of Mines, the University of Bremen in Germany, and Senior Academy at the University of Groningen in The Netherlands. Her diverse research is broadly centered on identity, belonging, and processes of identification and subjectivation, and the socio-cultural context of energy production and extraction. Her most recent project focuses on cultural understandings of the energy transition in the province of Groningen in the Netherlands. She has conducted ethnographic research in the United States, China, and the Netherlands. While her doctorate is in Cultural Anthropology (Brandeis University) she also holds a Master’s degree in Political Science (University of Amsterdam) and a graduate certificate in Women’s and Gender Studies (Brandeis University). Moolenaar is co-chair to the ExtrACTION & Environment topical interest group of the Society for Applied Anthropology, chair to the Eric Wolf Prize awarded by the Political Ecology Society, and serves as a commissioner on the Lakewood Advisory Commission for the City Council of Lakewood. She is also actively involved in anti-racism efforts within the Society for Applied Anthropology. At Regis, she sits on the Queer Resource Alliance and the Academic Integrity Task Force.
