Dr. Camilo Perez Quintero is an Assistant Professor of Communication at Regis University. He is a Colombian anthropologist and videographer with expertise in communication for social change and south epistemologies. His extensive work focuses on community media, storytelling for social justice, participatory action research, art-based research, and community engagement. He co-founded and directed the Communication and Social Change Co-Lab: JUI SHIKAZGUAXA at Universidad del Norte in Colombia, which served as a bridge between academia and local grassroot organizations or social movements. He also cofounded and directed the non-profit organization PASOLINI IN MEDELLIN, which worked with marginalized communities in his hometown: Medellín, using participatory narratives to foster critical thinking and counter violence. Dr. Perez Quintero has also served as a consultant for international organizations such as UNICEF, UNFPA, WACC, and USAID, focusing on project evaluation and communication for social and behavior change. His research primarily explores community and alternative media, indigenous media, communication for peacebuilding, Latino/Latinx culture, and storytelling activism, but also delves into autobiographical and illness narratives, memory, gender and sexual diversity, music and counterculture, the intersection of food, identity and memory, and health communication. Outside of academia, he is a father of two girls, an animal lover, and enjoys reading and biking.
