Franklin Chilaka was born and raised in Pasadena, California. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and Black Studies from the University of California, Santa Barbara, in 2011. Additionally, he holds a Master of Arts in Student Affairs Administration and a Graduate Certificate in Teaching and Learning in Postsecondary Education. With over a decade of combined experience in higher education — particularly in student and academic affairs as well as volunteer work — he is deeply committed to social justice, equity, access and holistic care.
Franklin has served on various committees aimed at closing achievement gaps and fostering intercultural communication. During his time in a doctoral program at the University of Colorado Boulder, he co-authored an article titled “Black Gay Men in Graduate Education: A Collaborative Autoethnography of Finding Black Queer Joy.”
In his free time, Franklin likes to sing, workout, dance, travel and spend time with friends and family.
