William S. Sutton is a Professor Emeritus in the Visual Art Program in the Department of Fine and Performing Arts. He taught courses in photography, art appreciation, and senior art seminars. He received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Colorado in Boulder. His photographs, primarily of the American West, explore the relationship of humanity and the landscape in the context of land use and economics. His photographs have been exhibited widely and are in the permanent collections of numerous institutions, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Bibliotech National in Paris, and the Library of Congress in Washington DC. Sutton was awarded a major fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts and a John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship. In 2013 he published his first monograph with GFT Books, At Home in the West: The Lure of Public Lands. From 2012 - 2015 he worked on the Wyoming Grasslands Photographic Project.
