At the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Mariesa Ho is an Economist in the Division of Economic and Risk Analysis’s Office of Corporate Finance, where her economic analyses of financial regulatory policy have been incorporated into current regulations, including: Modernization of Regulation S-K Items 101, 103, and 105; Accelerated and Large Accelerated Filer Definitions; and Amendments to Smaller Reporting Company Definition. As a former professor, Mariesa has actively advocated for expansions and improvements to the SEC Honors Business Internship program to enhance diversity and inclusion and founded the Honors Business Seminar Series in response to Covid-19 as a way to foster and preserve the unique learning environment at the Commission within a 100% digital framework. As a data scientist, Mariesa currently manages federal contracts to improve the usability of semi-structured corporate disclosure data by converting it into open-source, structured databases and serves on the NeurIPS committee for Fair AI in Finance. She additionally works on projects to enhance STEAM program integration into federal agency learning development initiatives for digital transformation. Outside of the Commission, Mariesa has been involved in numerous development-oriented initiatives, starting most notably with an environmental protection campaign she led in Baguio City, the Philippines while in 6th grade. From her days of volunteering at an orphanage in Kunming, PRC to her current activities in Fairfax County, Virginia, Mariesa has experience in international and domestic adoption processes and policies. In her free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her partner, two children, and pet rabbit.
