Deanna Johnson Butler

Deanna Johnson Butler is an African-American/Black native woman of Colorado, and a single parent of 30 years. Deanna received a bachelor’s degree in English from Metropolitan State University, and a Master’s degree in Organizational Management/leadership certification from Regis University in 2005. Deanna has spent the last 27 years working in state government, administering grant funds, and leading and participating in health equity efforts.

Deanna is an experienced community specialist and began her professional career in the State Office of the Governor during Colorado's deadliest summer of gang violence, 1993. Deanna comments that her life changed direction at that time, and as a young professional, she felt compelled to maintain a strong connection with the community. Deanna expanded her business skills when she joined the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. She participated in several community data and health disparities statistical report developments, managed the Health Disparities Grant Program, and is currently enjoying a leadership role as a state contracting and procurement administrator.

Deanna published the book A Single Parent's Guide to Enjoying the Holidays in 2020 for the purposes of inspiring and partnering with single and marginalized parents. Deanna is currently an instructor for parents living in transitional housing, enjoys delivering the message of positive thinking and pursuing healthy living, and encourages parents to seek hopeful solutions to life's challenges.
