Stories from Wartime Celebrates its 30th Anniversary
From now until the end of April, Regis University’s Center for the Study of War Experience celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Stories from Wartime annual speaker series. This unique series engages students and the community in the human experience of modern war.
April 30, 2025 marks 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War. As such, this year’s speaker series will focus on the history and the lived experience of veterans, civilians, anti-war protestors, adoptees and refugees of the Vietnam War, giving them the platform for dialogue and, importantly, empathy.
"With these two coinciding anniversary years, the end of the Vietnam War and our third decade hosting Stories from Wartime on campus, it naturally elicits reflection on what happened during the war, how the memory and ramifications of the war still lives on today, and how Regis has placed a central role in documenting and sharing the stories of those who lived the history," said Rose Campbell, co-director of the Center for the Study of War Experience.
"Nicki Gonzales, Ph.D., who is co-teaching the class this spring, and I looking forward to diving deep into conversations with our students, the public, and our guest speakers about the complexities of war experience and what is like to have a global conflict shape your life and identity."
The Center for the Study of War Experience is proud to host “Operation Babylift: New Perspectives” at the Dayton Memorial Library. This exhibit showcases the Operation Babylift Collection, the archival work of Devaki Murch, a Vietnamese adoptee and survivor of the tragic plane crash that occurred during an Operation Babylift mission. Included in the exhibit are photos, documents and artifacts from Operation Babylift.
This exhibition is open to the public Feb. 1-28. A special reception and speaker event will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 6 at the Dayton Memorial Library. After the reception, Mary Nelle Gage, S.L. will recount her experiences in Vietnam, assisting adoption agencies and pairing orphans of the war with families .
Stories from Wartime will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays through January to April at Regis’ Denver Campus and are also available via livestream. Learn more and RSVP here.
