Regis University Hosts Guatemalan Baby Shower and Silent Auction to Support Medical Outreach in Cobán

DENVER - Regis University invites the community to participate in the Guatemalan Baby Shower on Saturday, March 29, at 7 p.m. in St. John Francis Regis Chapel. This annual fundraising event will provide vital medical supplies and support for a team of Regis students traveling to Cobán, Guatemala, to assist local healthcare workers and deliver healthcare education.

by Regis alumna Dr. Lauri Pramuk and a team of healthcare providers, the project empowers students—many of whom are pursuing pre-healthcare studies—to gain hands-on experience in a primary care clinic, rotating through triage and shadowing physicians. The initiative highlights Regis University's commitment to service-learning and global health.

Donations of essential medical items such as nasal aspirators, thermometers, infant nail clippers, cloth diapers, and pediatric medications are also encouraged to support local families in need.

"We deeply appreciate the generosity of our Regis community. The mission our students are undertaking holds the power to make a meaningful impact on numerous families in Cobán facing urgent healthcare needs," said Dr. Pramuk.

Since partnering with Regis, the Cobán community has built a medical clinic featuring exam rooms, a dental office, a pharmacy, and a waiting area, with plans underway to expand rehabilitation and laboratory facilities.
