Regis University Earns Colorado’s First Career Connected Campus Designation
Recognition Highlights University’s Dedication to Integrating Career Readiness Across Student Experience
Kicking off Career Development Month in November, the Colorado Department of Higher Education (CDHE) announces the new Career Connected Campus Designation for higher education institutions and the seven institutions receiving the designation. Regis University is proud to announce its achievement as one of Colorado’s inaugural recipients of this designation. Gov. Polis signed a proclamation supporting Career Development Month organized by the Colorado Career Development Association (CCDA), a division of the National Career Development Association (NCDA). The proclamation supports career development practitioners in obtaining and maintaining certifications, credentials, and continuing education to best serve those seeking career assistance; and champion the mission and vision of NCDA to "inspire and empower individuals to achieve their career and life goals.”
“As we kick off Career Development Month, I am thrilled to announce the new Career Connected Campus Designation which highlights our commitment to connecting students with the skills needed to get good-paying and in-demand jobs. By focusing on practical skills and career readiness, these campuses equip students to thrive in the exciting and innovative sectors of the future, helping us meet the evolving needs of our thriving economy,” said Governor Polis.
This recognition celebrates the University’s innovative approach to embedding career preparation and professional development throughout the student experience, both in and outside the classroom. Seven distinguished Colorado postsecondary institutions received the Career Connected Campus Designation for 2024-2027— Colorado College, Colorado School of Mines, CSU Global, Pueblo Community College, Regis University, University of Colorado Denver, and the University of Denver. This inaugural honor recognizes institutions that excel in integrating academic curriculum with work-based learning experiences, empowering students with the skills and knowledge to thrive in high-demand, high-wage careers. Representing both two-year and four-year colleges, private and public institutions, and urban and rural communities, these colleges exemplify a strong commitment to student success and workforce readiness across Colorado.
As part of the “Workforce Determinants of Student Success” initiative, this new designation distinguishes higher education institutions that prioritize career readiness and equitable career development practices. The Designation sets a high standard for how campuses engage in practices that prepare students for employment commensurate with their postsecondary credentials. As part of the Workforce Determinants of Student Success initiative, WDSS builds on the existing Social Determinants of Student Success work and aims to emphasize career preparation.
“We are proud of the strides we’ve made in the apprenticeship, internship and work-based learning spaces, but also recognize there is still work to be done,” said Dr. Angie Paccione, CDHE executive director. “These opportunities align with the needs of Colorado’s high-growth industries. The Career Connected designation underscores the state’s commitment to ensuring equitable access to high-quality education and training for all residents, preparing them for success in the modern workforce.”
Sarah Smith, director of the Center for Career and Professional Development at Regis University, expressed her pride in the University’s achievement. “I’m proud that Regis University has been designated one of Colorado’s first Career Connected Campuses. This recognition highlights our commitment to meaningful postsecondary learning and economic value for our students. I’m especially grateful for our Center for Career and Professional Development team, who work tirelessly to support students in exploring their vocations, building career skills, and securing future opportunities. Our entire Regis community is dedicated to integrating career development into every aspect of the student experience to ensure their success.
The three-year designation, valid from 2024 to 2027, honors Regis University’s dedication to preparing students for meaningful careers and ensuring that career readiness is an integral part of the academic journey. The University’s approach includes collaborations across all colleges, integrating career support into both co-curricular and curricular activities, fostering service-learning opportunities and utilizing career outcome data to guide strategic decisions.
This achievement reflects Regis University’s Jesuit values, focusing on developing the whole person and supporting students’ vocational discernment and professional growth. Through the Career Connected Campus designation, Regis University joins a select cohort of institutions recognized for their commitment to shaping the future workforce and supporting graduates as they make impactful contributions in their chosen fields.
