The Center for the Study of War Experience Celebrates Its 20th Anniversary
Remembering. Celebrating. Looking ahead.
For two decades, the Center for the Study of War Experience (CSWE) at Regis University has created a space for individuals to share their experiences of war. Founded in 2004 by professor emeritus Dan Clayton, Ph.D. and Rev. James B. Guyer, S.J., the Center was developed to support the Stories from Wartime series, an ongoing oral history program and immersive history course at Regis which will celebrate its 30th anniversary this spring. Since then, the CSWE has grown beyond its roots into a vast archive of documents, photos and artifacts from wartime.
The CSWE’s storytelling events and archives have uniquely been open to the public, fostering conversations between veterans, students and the local community. The fleeting nature of oral history underscored the urgent need for the CSWE. Originally focused on safeguarding the vanishing stories of WWII veterans, the center has broadened its mission to include refugees, civilians, and anti-war protestors. In the past few years, the focal points have been on the experiences of women, and Hispanic and African American experiences of war.
On Nov. 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Claver Hall in the Mountain View Room, the Regis community is invited to the 20th Anniversary Celebration of the Center for the Study of War Experience. This special event will honor the work of the CSWE and their commitment to the recording and sharing of war experiences.
Dan Clayton, Ph.D. will speak at this event, working to engage student and alumni voices. Additionally, past and current CSWE leadership will reflect on past achievements. Please join the CSWE in celebrating two decades of meaningful work and vision for the years ahead. Lunch will be provided.
