Regis University Welcomes Record-Breaking First-Year, International and Health Profession Enrollment
Regis University is set to welcome over 600 first-year students this fall, marking the largest incoming class in its history. This growth is complemented by an increase in out-of-state, student-athletes and transfer students. Since achieving Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) status two years ago, the student body has become increasingly diverse, with 48 percent of incoming students identifying as Hispanic and 52 percent of the total student body being first-generation college students.
Dr. Erin Winterrowd, academic dean of Regis College, expressed enthusiasm about the enrollment figures, stating, "A 21 percent increase in first-year student enrollment is exciting and reflects a growing interest in the institution." This year's incoming class boasts an impressive average high school GPA of 3.67, with more than 50 percent of students achieving a GPA of 4.0 or higher. Additionally, optional SAT scores for the incoming class have risen by 14 percent (152 points) compared to the previous year, showcasing the academic talent of this year's cohort.
J.T. Smith, associate vice president and dean of admission, commented on the transformative nature of this year's admissions cycle, "This year's fall applications not only brought optimism but also allowed for thoughtful planning and selection of a diverse and talented class." The university experienced a remarkable 49 percent increase in fall applications, making it the largest application pool in its history. Concurrently, the admit rate dropped by 19 percent, resulting in the most selective incoming class.
Regis University is also proud to report a significant expansion in its international student body, which will exceed 200 students from 41 countries, reflecting a 321 percent increase in international enrollment. This growth is particularly notable within the Anderson College of Business and Computing, which saw a 346 percent increase in international applications, another record for the university. Despite challenges related to visa appointments and increased F-1 student visa rejection rates worldwide, Regis is poised to welcome its largest international class in history. Dr. Madhu Rao, academic dean of Anderson College of Business and Computing, stated, “We are thrilled to welcome such a diverse group of international students into our programs, including PLM MBA, M.S. Data Science, M.S. Information Systems, M.S. Health Informatics and M.S. Software Engineering. Their presence enriches our academic community and reinforces Anderson College’s global orientation."
In addition to the growth in traditional undergraduate enrollment, Regis University also had a strong year in attracting post-traditional students, welcoming over 700 students in Fall 1 & 2. Cindy Hejl, dean of financial aid, highlighted the proactive efforts made by the university in response to FAFSA delays and challenges, "Our early preparation of financial aid offers and concierge service to assist students with financial uncertainties gave them the confidence to enroll at Regis, despite the FAFSA fiasco."
Furthermore, Regis will welcome its largest cohorts in pre-nursing, pre-pharmacy, and physical therapy programs. Dr. Linda Osterlund, academic dean of Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions, emphasized the importance of these enrollments, "The more students we enroll in these programs, the better we can meet healthcare workforce needs." Additionally, RHCHP will launch several new programs this fall: a Ph.D. in Nursing and a Ph.D. in Counseling Education and Supervision.
The enrollment success this fall is attributed to Regis University's innovative recruitment strategy, scholarship expansion, global initiatives and promotion of high-quality programs that are both regionally and nationally ranked, all offered at an affordable cost.
