The University to host week-long interactive summer experience for students
Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions at Regis University kicks off their Health Professions Summer Experience, an immersive weeklong camp designed for advanced high schoolers and college students interested in high-demand health care professions. The event, titled “Interdisciplinary Insights: Nursing, Business, and Ethics of Health Care,” will be taking place from July 15 to July 19 at the Denver campus. The event will provide a comprehensive introduction to various health care fields. Participants will engage in hands-on activities, expert-led workshops, and interactive sessions that offer a deep dive into multiple health care disciplines.
“We are excited to showcase our state and nationally ranked programs in health professions. Students will experience activities related to health fields they may have never considered, but they are fields that are in demand. If you are a high school or early college career student considering health professions, this camp experience is a must!” said Linda Osterlund, dean of the Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions at Regis University.
The week-long event will include workshops on:
- ICU Simulation - training exercise that mimics the environment of an intensive care unit
- Sterile and nonsterile compounding - Mixing medications in a completely germ-free environment to make products like IV medications.
- Gowning up - The process of putting on protective clothing, such as gowns, gloves, masks, and hats.
- Vital Signs - Key health indicators, including body temperature, heart rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate.
- Vaccines – Students will learn more about substances given to people to stimulate their immune system to protect against specific diseases.
- Cadaver Lab Humidors - A laboratory where healthcare students and professionals' study human bodies donated for educational purposes.
- Vo2 Lab - tests are conducted to measure the maximum rate of oxygen consumption during intense exercise, indicating an individual's aerobic fitness and cardiovascular health.
- Dry Needle Demo - demonstration of dry needling, a technique used by healthcare professionals, particularly physical therapists, to treat muscle pain and dysfunction.
- Physical Activities Course (Health Exercise Science)
Participants will also learn more about nursing skills, counseling, family therapy, play therapy, occupational therapy at the Interprofessional Health Campus in Thornton.
- Simulated family therapy/group therapy
- Premarital counseling assessment
- Nursing Skills lab
- Occupational Therapy lab – apartment setup
