Regis University Expands Athletics Program with Addition of Track and Field Teams
The new teams will begin competing during the 2024 academic year
Regis University is excited to announce the expansion of its athletic program with the addition of women's indoor and outdoor and men’s outdoor track and field teams, Senior Vice President Senthil Kumar, D.B.A., announced this week.
These new teams, which will begin competition in the 2024-2025 season, represent a significant milestone in the university's sports history.
Evan Verbal, celebrated for his leadership as the head coach of Regis’ women’s and men’s cross-country, has been named the head coach of the Rangers' newly launched track and field programs.
Kumar expressed confidence in Verbal, stating, “Coach Verbal has done a wonderful job with the women’s and men’s cross-country teams, and his passion for the sport is truly inspiring.”
“This is a very exciting time for Regis University,” said Tommy Gilhooly, Associate Vice President and Director for Athletics. “We are thrilled to welcome these new teams to the Regis University Athletics family. We are blessed to have Coach Verbal lead this effort meaningfully and thoughtfully.”
Verbal echoed the sentiment. “We’re incredibly excited to launch the track and field programs here at Regis,” he said. “It opens up many recruiting possibilities in track and field and cross country. Most high school recruits want to run both, and for Regis to now have that ability to recruit those high-level student-athletes will be huge for us.”
Regis University, a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and the NCAA, will see its athletics program expand to 15 varsity sports for the 2024-2025 season, further solidifying its commitment to athletic excellence and student-athlete development.
Kumar emphasized the multifaceted benefits of adding track and field to the university’s repertoire of sports. “The addition of track and field will strengthen our athletic department in many different ways,” he said. “There is so much potential here at Regis for track and field, and it will serve Regis immensely for years to come.”
With the introduction of the track and field teams, Regis University anticipates engaging with the broader athletic community and fostering a culture of sportsmanship, teamwork, and achievement both on and off the field.
