Regis Celebrates National Nurses Week

“I attribute my success to this — I never gave nor took any excuse.”

These inspirational (and endearingly stern) words came from none other than godmother of the nursing profession, Florence Nightingale. Dubbed the “Lady with the Lamp,” she made the rounds of Crimean War battlefields by night, tending to British soldiers wounded in some of the fiercest fighting of the early Industrial Age. Ever since, nurses have found inspiration in Nightingale’s bold words and actions, as they care for the injured and ill in times of peace, war and catastrophe.

Today, the nursing profession itself is on the verge of its own sort of catastrophe — almost half a million seasoned nurses are set to retire by 2025, creating a severe talent shortage in the U.S. Make no mistake, this has potentially disastrous ramifications for health care in communities across the country.

But just as Nightingale found optimism even in the deadly face of war, we at Regis believe there’s a silver lining to the nursing crisis. As countless career nurses depart for sunnier climates or to spend more time with their grandchildren, their exodus means promising opportunities for a new generation of nursing professionals, especially in leadership and management roles.

Regis is already ahead of the curve — our various undergraduate, graduate and certificate nursing programs are designed for compassionate leaders to shine. If you’ve been on the fence about following in Florence’s footsteps and taking the next step in your nursing career, now is the time to step up. We’re certain to offer a nursing program that meets your education level and career ambitions.

At Regis, we believe that where compassion and curiosity meet, the best nurses are trained. As one of the top nursing schools in Colorado, the Loretto Heights School of Nursing at Regis has been training generations of nursing professionals since 1948. Our graduates are recognized for their knowledge, competence, compassion, ethics and leadership, as well as their commitment to social justice and community service.

Our Jesuit values guide students to think critically, evolve holistically and apply their education to impact the greater good. We do more than career training — we work to develop principled practitioners and leaders of health care. Ready to make your impact? Start your application today.

Like Florence said, no excuses.
