Our initial licensure programs allow you to earn your degree, gain student teaching experience and meet the requirements to become a practicing teacher. You’ll explore important issues such as illiteracy, the link between education and employment, and the needs of underserved populations.

Already a practicing teacher? Whether you’ve been teaching for three years or thirty, an advanced degree or certificate can help you take the next step as an educator. Nicole Boyer, ‘20
M.Ed. Elementary Education

Born in California and raised in Colorado, Nicole Boyer moved around during her undergraduate years, pursuing her passion for art and art history. She knew she eventually wanted to earn her master’s degree but wasn’t exactly sure what to study. After two summers spent teaching pottery at a girl’s summer camp in Maine, she was reminded of how much she loves working with kids and decided to earn her master’s in elementary education. She came to Regis shortly after, drawn by the program’s small class size and personal feel, and graduated in 2020.

Where do you work now? Could you tell us about your day-to-day?
I’m a 4th-grade teacher at Roxborough Intermediate in Douglas County. It’s the same school where I student taught — I felt at home there and taught 3rd grade before moving up to 4th grade. I’m very passionate about equity and care for the whole person; cura personalis is how I found my teaching philosophy. Love is the base of the classroom. If my kids leave my classroom at the end of the day and they feel loved, then I succeeded.

Regis prides itself on small class sizes and faculty mentorship. Was this your experience at Regis?
Absolutely, I felt like I could talk to my professors about what was going on and have a personal relationship with them. That’s something I really value, especially in something like education which is so based on relationships, communication and community.

Do you have any advice for aspiring educators?
We’re often told as educators that it’s a work of heart, but the truth is that it actually is work. It’s something that’s full of love and beauty and will fill your cup, but it’s also hard work. It takes a lot from you, and you have to be ready for it.
