Construction begins on new artificial turf fields
New fields will serve Regis University and Arrupe Jesuit High School athletes
Renovations of Regis University’s practice fields are underway thanks to the generosity of Shea Homes and the Shea Family. The joint-use agreement for the renovated fields will ensure that student athletes from Arrupe Jesuit High School have a home field at Regis University.
The modernized and enhanced fields will benefit Regis’ soccer, lacrosse and rugby teams and provide a new, illuminated state-of-the-art venue for the Arrupe boys and girls soccer teams. The fields, located on the southeast side of Regis’ Northwest Denver Campus along Regis Boulevard, will be ready for the Spring 2022 season.
The multi-million-dollar renovation includes installing eco-friendly turf made from nylon grass atop a sand infill, which is gentler on athletes and will result in fewer turf-related injuries. The fields will feature energy-efficient, precision LED lights and two new scoreboards that will face away from Regis’ neighbors.
Regis’ Physical Plant team estimates the project will save 5.4 million gallons of water during the fields’ first year of use. It also eliminates six hours of weekly mowing.
Field construction began on Oct. 7 with all equipment entering and exiting the Regis campus via Regis Square on Federal Boulevard. Adhering to city ordinances, work will occur only between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m., Monday - Friday. The mature trees lining Regis Boulevard will buffer neighbors from the fields.
