IBM Watson Health Visits Regis
School of Pharmacy hosts panel to offer insight, share opportunities
A team from IBM Watson Health visited Regis on Friday, Feb. 21, to discuss their innovative work, their personal career paths, and current technological changes in healthcare. As industry leaders, the team provided insight on the growing intersection of artificial intelligence, informatics, data science and pharmacy. The panel also advertised internship opportunities for Regis students to consider.
New Degree Program
To address one of the growing areas of pharmacy that the panelists discussed — in Regis’ tradition of cross-disciplinary learning — the School of Pharmacy has partnered with the Data Sciences Department to offer health informatics and data science certificates for pharmacy students, beginning fall 2020. The certificates are set up so that three of the elective courses in the pharmacy curriculum count towards the certificate program, and students need to take only one additional course to receive a certificate along with their doctorate of pharmacy.
“We are very excited about the launch of these certificates for our pharmacy students,” said Samit Shah, dean of the School of Pharmacy. “There is a demand for pharmacists who understand informatics and data science, and can communicate with those departments in health systems and other innovative companies like IBM Watson Health. Completing one of these certificate programs is a great way for students to provide proof of their mastery of health informatics or data science within pharmacy.”
