Plan for Traditional In-Person Classes
Schedule
For students in our on-campus, traditional, undergraduate and graduate programs and some health profession programs, classes will start a week early on Aug. 17, and on-campus classes will end Nov. 20.
The traditional, two-day fall break is canceled. After the Thanksgiving break, finals will be conducted online Nov. 30 to Dec. 6.
This schedule will provide the same amount of instruction time to students but allow them to return home before the forecasted peak activity for the flu in December, which experts believe likely coincide with a second wave of COVID-19.
Full-time campus-based Doctor of Pharmacy and Doctor of Physical Therapy students should consult with their program administrators regarding the fall semester schedules.
Class formats
Regis University will offer classes in in-person, hybrid or blended learning models this fall to provide students high quality academic instruction in a safe environment.
The hybrid and blended models will ensure class sizes stay within social distancing requirements; make it possible for any student who must isolate to remain connected to classroom learning; and to avoid any disruption to classes should the state have to impose another stay-at-home order. Courses such as labs, or clinicals, or studio courses will meet in person while socially distanced to keep students safe during the pandemic.
A hybrid format may consist of a limited number of students in a class on campus while other students are logged in virtually at the same time, to attend class. Blended learning models may also consist of partial online instruction and partial on-campus instruction, with social distancing modifications.
Safety measures
The University has adopted several initiatives to make campus as safe as possible:
ENHANCED CLEANING: Custodial Services will be cleaning on normal schedule and then retouch facilities mid-day and wiping down doorways and cleaning bathrooms and water fountains. They will be using CDC approved disinfectant with at least 75% alcohol content.
PLEXIGLASS: We will be installing safety guards where there are high-touch points in and around campus to protect first line greeters in our offices and other facilities.
SANITIZER STATIONS: Stations will be provided all over the campus. We will also provide hand wipes in locations for student and faculty and staff to use if they feel areas need additional cleaning.
SOCIAL DISTANCING IN CLASSROOMS, CAFE AND OTHER SPACES: The spaces will be marked for maximum occupancy to assure social distancing. Look for Regi’s paw prints which will designate 6-foot social distances, whether standing in a room or hall or sitting at a table.
RESIDENCE HALLS: Residence hall common areas will be cleaned daily early in the morning and retouched in the afternoon. Entrances will be wiped down. Residents will be advised to help keep areas clean and practice proper hygiene to keep them and their neighbors safe.
Mitigation Plans
The University also has adopted “test, trace and separate” mitigation plans to implement as needed to ensure a safe campus. If needed, any of the following measures could be adopted based on guidance from the public health department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
- Adjust the size of in-person classes and gatherings;
- Permit “super hybrid” classes that students may attend in person or remotely;
- Adjust the number of personnel who work on campus or remotely;
- Implement social distancing protocols, including the wearing of masks; and
- Restrict entrances and exits to buildings, with temperature checks.
In addition, all of our on-campus classes will have an online home, which will allow a swift conversion to all or partial online instruction if necessary. Thanks to Regis’ 30 years of experience with distance education, the University was able to convert to online instruction smoothly this spring and maintain strong student participation.
