Regis University, contractor earn award for renovated Student Center

The recently completed project received a construction excellence nod from the Associated General Contractors

Regis University was announced as a silver award winner, along with Golden Triangle Construction (GTC), for its Student Center project at the Associated General Contractors Colorado Industry Gala & ACE Awards in November. Regis and GTC received the construction excellence award in the “Best Building Project Under $10 Million” category.

The AGC Colorado Industry Gala & ACE Awards is the state's largest commercial construction event of the year, honoring the top construction projects in the Rocky Mountain region. The event brings together contractors, architects, owners, professional firms, key leaders and more. This year, over 70 nominations were submitted.

Mike Redmond, associate vice president for Physical Plant at Regis, said the nomination was based on elements such as the complexity of the Student Center project, the excellence and sustainability of its design, and its unique use of recycled material.

“Regis Physical Plant is honored to receive this award alongside GTC for our Student Center,” Redmond said. “The project involved numerous departments, and we focused on developing an inclusive facility for use by students, faculty, staff and community members. We look forward to seeing the Student Center serve as a hub for community and campus life for many years to come.”

The five-phase project has been underway for 32 months, and during certain times there were more than 125 workers working on the project at one time, Redmond said.

“I want to publicly thank Mike Redmond and his Physical Plant team, Soderstrom, our architects, and GTC, our general contractor, for helping us honor our new dining and gathering place,” said Salvador Aceves, Regis’ senior vice president and chief financial officer. “The Student Center has been transformed into our campus' family room and will continue to welcome faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends for many years to come.”
