Getting to the facts quickly is imperative when you're in the business of saving lives. Today's fast paced health centers have an urgent need for information management personnel. Regis University's Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management offers students the chance to prepare for the demands of a health care field that is growing by leaps and bounds. With classes easily timed to fit in with your busy schedule, you could be one of them!
According to the 2004-2005 edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of medical records and health information technicians is expected to keep growing faster than the average of all occupations through 2012.
The HIM program is offered on the campus or online!
The campus option offers courses on Saturdays and Sundays every other weekend in eight-week terms, with an online component. The online option offers courses in a flexible format so that you may attend class from anywhere online! Online classes are in eight-week terms and do not require specific log in times, but do include weekly deadlines and assignments. Both options allow you to plan your career in leadership, while maintaining full-time employment.
The HIM curriculum requires 128 semester hours and can be completed in 24-30 months. Additional core requirements may extend the program beyond two years. Individuals who already possess the Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential are awarded credit for specific coursework within the professional core.
Upon completing the HIM program, graduates are eligible to sit for the national Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential exam through AHIMA. The graduate may use this credential anywhere in the U.S. and some international locations without retesting.
