B.S. in Health Information Management Degree Overview

Getting to the facts quickly is imperative when you're in the business of saving lives. Today's fast paced health centers have an urgent need for information management professionals. Federal legislation has mandated a nationwide transition to electronic medical records, making Health Information Management (HIM) among the fastest growing careers. HIM professionals assume a wide variety of technical, managerial, and consultative roles in the health care delivery system. Employment opportunities exist in all types of health care facilities and settings.

According to the 2012 edition of the Occupational Outlook Handbook of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment of medical records and health information technicians is expected to keep growing faster than the average of all occupations through 2022.

Our Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management degree is offered 100 percent online! The online format allows you to advance your education, while maintaining full-time employment. Gain hands-on experience in virtual directed practice with coding and health care information systems. Make valuable professional connections during the management practicum as you learn decision making and problem resolution strategies.

Degree: Graduates are awarded a Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management degree and are eligible to sit for the national Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) credential exam - a credential recognized anywhere in the United States and some international locations without retesting. In addition to the HIM degree, graduates also earn a minor in Health Care Administration. The HIM program pass rates routinely exceed the national exam pass rates and over 90% of students completing the program are employed immediately after or prior to completing the program.

Online Format: Flexible format allows you to log in anytime, day or night as you complete weekly assignments. Each class is 8 weeks allowing you to progress quickly. No campus visits are required for online students, but we encourage you to celebrate your graduation in person!

Start Dates: Spring (January), Summer (May), Fall (August)

Application Deadline: Regis University's HIM program has a rolling admission deadline so it’s never too late to apply. Course size is limited, so it is best to submit applications sooner than later.

Length of HIM Program: The bachelor’s degree in HIM requires 128 semester hours and may be completed in 24-30 months taking at least one class per 8-week academic term.
