Available Grants

College Opportunity Fund

This program provides an amount of money per credit hour paid by the State of Colorado on behalf of eligible undergraduate resident students. The dollar amount of the stipend is set annually by the Colorado General Assembly; the per credit hour amount will be fifty percent (50%) of the amount set by theGeneral Assembly for public institutions. The number of stipend credit hours is capped at 145 credit hours, with an additional 30 hours of undergraduate credits available. For Regis University undergraduate students the stipend will be awarded through the financial aid process.

An eligible undergraduate student at Regis University is a student who:

  • has applied for the stipend through the College Assist website
  • is a documented Colorado resident
  • is a graduate of a Colorado high school or has successfully completed a non-public home-based education program in Colorado or received a GED in Colorado
  • demonstrates financial need through the student’s eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant program (student must complete the FAFSA)
  • has authorized Regis to receive COF funding on his or her behalf
  • meets any other eligibility requirements established by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE).

College Assist administers the COF program, and students need to apply at College Assist only once in their lifetime.

In order to document Colorado residency, students must complete a current Colorado Residency form. The Authorization to Request COF Stipends form is used to authorize Regis University to apply the student's COF stipends to his or her Regis student account, or to rescind authorization. This form needs to be completed only once while the student is attending Regis University.

Certain courses are not eligible for the COF stipend, such as high school fast track courses, basic skills courses, and graduate courses unless taken for an undergraduate degree. For a more comprehensive listing, see the Q & A page.

See College Opportunity Fund Q and As

Federal Pell Grant

This is a federally funded program for students with extreme financial need. Application is made by using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Federal legislation limits Federal Pell Grant funds to students who have not earned a bachelor's degree. The student's Expected Family Contribution, estimated costs, and enrollment status determine the amount of the Federal Pell Grant.

Beginning in Summer 2012, the Federal Pell Grant will be disbursed only if you have not already received the lifetime maximum amount which is the equivalent of twelve semesters full-time enrollment awards.

The FAFSA processor will begin to calculate the percentage amount you have received, and the maximum is capped at 600%. The percentage received is based on the annual award at full-time enrollment status. For example, if you are awarded full-time for the two semesters in the 2011-2012 academic year, the percentage used is 100%. If you are awarded for only 9 credits for two semesters, the percentage used for the academic year is 75%.

This cap on Federal Pell Grants was created by the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012 (Public Law 112-74). This change affects all students regardless of when or where they received their first Federal Pell Grant. Students who are currently receiving the Federal Pell Grant in the 2011-2012 academic year and who have already used 600% of their Pell Grant eligibility will no longer be eligible to receive a Pell Grant starting Summer 2012.

Federal TEACH Grant

The College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program, which provides up to $4,000 per year ($16,000 total for 4-year programs) in grants to students who commit to 1) teach full-time, 2) in high-need subject areas, 3) for at least four years, 4) at schools that serve students from low-income families. Graduate students may be eligible for $4,000 per year ($8,000 total) with this same commitment to teach.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

The federally funded Supplemental Grant may be awarded to a student seeking a first baccalaureate degree. The FAFSA is used to apply for the grant. Students who qualify for Federal Pell Grants are considered for Federal SEOG.

Colorado Student Grant

Colorado Student Grants are state funds awarded to Colorado resident undergraduate students with high financial need. Students must file the FAFSA and document residency by submitting a completed Colorado Residency Form.

Colorado Graduate Grant

Colorado Graduate Grants are state funds awarded to Colorado resident graduate students with high financial need who are enrolled in degree programs identified as critical careers by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE). Students must file the FAFSA and document Colorado residency by submitting a completed Colorado Residency Form for graduate students.

Regis Grant

A Regis Grant is an award of Regis University funds for undergraduate students. A FAFSA is required because grants are normally based on demonstrated financial need.

Fulbright Scholar Program

Every year the Fulbright Scholar Program sends over 800 faculty, students, and professionals to 140 countries worldwide.

Traditional grants can be as short as three months or as long as an academic year or even longer. The Senior Specialists program offers short-term consulting grants ranging from two to six weeks.

Detailed award descriptions, eligibility guidelines, application materials and instructions are available from the Institute for International Education. For further information e-mail Dr. Marty Sipos, Regis University Fulbright Program Director.

Additional Aid Opportunities

Bureau of Indian Affairs

Grants are available to students who are at least one-fourth American Indian, Eskimo or Aleut and who are issued an Indian Certification by their tribe. This grant is usually a supplement to other types of financial aid. Students should apply to a Bureau of Indian Affairs agency.

Dependent's Tuition Assistance

This program provides tuition for dependents of National Guardsmen, law enforcement officers or firemen killed or disabled in the line of duty. It also assists dependents of Coloradoans who were prisoners of war or missing in action. Students should apply to the Colorado Commission on Higher Education.

Division of Vocational Rehabilitation

Students with physical or emotional handicaps may be eligible for assistance for tuition, fees, books, supplies, maintenance, medical services and transportation. The Division of Vocational Rehabilitation may be contacted for additional information.

State Scholarship/Grant Programs

Some states, such as Alaska, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Massachusetts, Vermont, Pennsylvania and New Hampshire, offer grant and scholarship assistance for students attending Regis University. Information on these programs may be obtained from a school counselor or the Higher Educational Assistance Agency in an interested student’s home state. Colorado Undergraduate Merit Funds are funded by the Colorado General Assembly.

Veteran's Benefits

The University is approved by the State Approving Agency of Colorado, a division of the State Board for Community Colleges and Occupational Education, to offer courses of education and training for veterans and eligible dependents throughout the state of Colorado under the provisions of the Department of Veteran’s Affairs. Additionally, Regis University is approved to provide the same service in the state of Nevada. Veterans and other eligible persons should obtain their certificates of eligibility from the regional office of the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) before entrance into the University.

The payment of benefits by the VA differs by Regis University programs. Students who are eligible for veterans’ benefits should check with the Regis University certifying official in the Enrollment Services-Registrar for specific information about their particular program. Additionally, students receiving veterans’ benefits must notify the Regis University certifying official under the following conditions:

  • The student is temporarily withdrawing from the program.
  • The student is permanently withdrawing from the program.
  • The student is changing programs and/or majors.
  • The student is attending another college or university.
