Building Community in the First Year: O'Connell Hall at a Glance

O’Connell Hall has a front desk that is staffed throughout the day, as well as Resident Assistants and Peer Ministers who serve the students in the building..  O’Connell Hall is a 3-story residence hall with close access to the Copy and Print Center, the University Mail Room (located in the hall’s basement), Main Hall, the O’Sullivan Art Gallery, and Claver Hall.

O'Connell residents enjoy an environment that includes two different Living Learning Communities (Pre-Business and Pre-Science LLCs), so peers may be particularly focused on their academics or furthering their professional development.   O’Connell is arranged in an e lounge-centric living situation.  The hall is noticeably bright and fresh, with white walls and relatively spacious hallways.  Students who live in “OC” enjoy having two lounges per floor allowing them to have space to join fellow men or women for wing-specific programming, or where they can connect with fellow residents from throughout O’Connell.  O’Connell’s layout also provides other common areas on each floor, such as the “2nd floor classroom,” ideal for study groups and practicing presentations and the lounge where friends catch up while others engage in friendly games of ping pong.

O’Connell Hall offers its residents two different Living Learning Communities (LLCs).  These communities comprise an average of 20 members and  are considered co-ed, as LLC residents may reside on either the men’s or women’s side of the floor.  While communities are subject to relocation due to housing numbers, the  two communities currently housed in O’Connell Hall are Pre-Business and Pre-Science.

PRE-BUSINESS

This community is a multidisciplinary community focused on the world of business. This community is for anyone who is intending to major in business, marketing, communications, accounting, finance, or similar programs.  Community members may also choose to join because they simply have a strong interest in business. Programming includes discussing both the world and local Denver market, visiting downtown Denver, bringing in local professionals from the field, tutoring options, and faculty involvement.

PRE-SCIENCE

This community is a multidisciplinary community focused on the sciences. This community is for anyone who is intending to major in a science or pre-health field such as biology, neuroscience, nursing, pharmacy or chemistry.  Community members may also choose to join because they simply have a strong interest in the sciences. Programming includes exploring the science-based opportunities surrounding the Denver area, visiting museums, bringing in local professionals from the field, tutoring options, and faculty involvement.

The O’Connell Hall staff includes six Resident Assistants, two Peer Ministers, several Desk Assistants, and an Assistant Resident Life Coordinator. Additionally, there is one Residence Life Coordinator, a full-time professional staff member who lives and works in O’Connell.  The residence hall staff works together to promote educational, social, and cultural development of Regis students. All staff members are trained in referring residents to the appropriate resources on campus, proving to be a great resource for first-year residents.  The staff also acts as role models to promote campus involvement, resident hall community, and faith development.

Elizabeth Holody
Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)

Rooms in O’Connell Hall are 11’ x 15’.  While furniture is originally set with desks, beds, chests of drawers, and moveable wardrobes located on resident’s respective sides of the room, many roommates choose to customize how their room looks by shifting the height of their beds and rearranging the furniture.  To view an interactive map of an O’Connell Hall student room, click on one of the links below.
