Complete Your Background Check

A background check through the Colorado Bureau of Investigation is required of all students entering education courses. 

The background check is initiated online by each student and e-mailed to the education department.  The cost is $6.85. You will need a credit card. The CBI website will not accept debit cards.

This background check does not replace the full background check needed for entrance to the education department.  At that time, you will need to be fingerprinted and have a complete background check that will be required for Colorado Licensure. If you have already submitted fingerprints to the Colorado Department of Education, you will likely not have to do this a second time.

Complete your background check by completing the following steps: 

  1. Log into:  www.cbi.state.co.us
  2. Click on Background check
  3. Click on Individual search
  4. Conduct an inquiry without setting up an account
  5. Agree, continue
  6. Enter your first name, last name and date of birth.  Reason for search:  Education  (Note: Do not enter any other information)
  7. Click on inquiry information
  8. Choose email, enter your first name, last name, local address and phone number.
  9. Your billing address must match your credit card address, click continue.
  10. email report to:  nwhite@regis.edu and edgrad@regis.edu
  11. Print a copy of the report for yourself and save as a text file so that  you can produce another copy if you need one, click submit.  If you don’t print a copy or save it as a text file, there will there will be no way for you to retrieve the report if it isn’t received by the education department.
