The Office of Women and Gender Studies will be hosting Nely Rodriguez, an inspiring member of the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW), who will share about some of the groundbreaking progress that is happening in the tomato fields of Florida thanks to the work of the CIW.
The CIW is a worker-based organization that has gained international recognition for its achievements in the fields of corporate social responsibility, community organizing, and sustainable food.
Nely Rodriguez will talk about the direct impacts that these achievements have had on the working community in Immokalee, Florida. She will also share about her personal struggle as a woman in the tomato farming industry and how the changes in the tomato fields have impacted other women in the community.
This is a great opportunity to learn more about how the CIW has enlisted major corporate buyers, consumers, students, faith-based communities and other community members to help advance justice and dignity in the fields.
