M.Ed. Gifted and Talented

Degree Overview

Ideal for those who already possess a teaching license and for professionals seeking additional credentials, our M.Ed. with an emphasis in Gifted and Talented Education is designed to provide in-depth teacher preparation in identification, instruction and assessment of gifted and talented K-12 students. All courses align with the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) and National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC) standards.

Designed by practicing professionals, the M.Ed. with an emphasis in Gifted and Talented Education is offered in online, on campus and directed study formats. Current teachers not wishing to complete an entire Master of Education degree can take up to 9 credit hours as a non-degree seeking student. Courses from this program fulfill the continuing education credits required for recertification of special education teachers and they can be used to add an endorsement in Gifted and Talented Education through the Colorado Department of Education’s route of credit assessment. Plus, our Teacher Education program is nationally approved through the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).

Licensed educators and paraprofessionals are eligible to receive a 10% preferred tuition discount for all Teacher Education courses at CPS. Contact an enrollment counselor at 800.944.7667 for details.

Final requirements for the double specialization will be determined by your faculty advisor. Upon completion of all requirements, the degree and both specializations are posted to your official transcript and diploma.

Second Specialization
Students who have already graduated with their M.Ed. degree and wish to return for a second specialization from the non-licensure program must begin by submitting an application for readmission. Upon readmission, all requirements must be completed for the second specialization, including all elective credits. Overlapping course work from the student's original degree/specialization will be considered, though a minimum of 18 credits unique to the second specialization is required. Additionally, courses taken more than six years prior to the date of readmission may not be accepted. Final requirements for the second specialization will be determined by your faculty advisor.
