Creating Proposals That Work
Successful grant proposals enhance both the academic reputation of the University and the faculty who submit them. The Office of Academic Grants (OAG) has created resources, policies and processes that facilitate grant proposal development. Here's an overview of the development process.
Phase 1: Proposal Preparation & Support
The first phase of the proposal process prepares you for making your research project idea a reality. During this phase you will take the following steps.
- Contact the Office of Academic Grants. The OAG will assist you with the guidance and resources you need to develop a strategic plan, seek support for your idea, write the proposal and use your funding streams wisely. You can reach the OAG at 303.458.4206 or oag@regis.edu.
- Prepare your proposal abstract. You will document your problem statement, literature review, methodology, budget, dissemination plan and level of sustainability.
- Seek support for your proposal. Connect with your department chair and your OAG college contact or vice president and obtain their support for your proposal.
Phase 2: Review Funding & Compliance Requirements
During the second phase of the development process, you will review funding agency information such as the submission deadline, instructions, guidelines, goals and expected outcomes. If required, you will begin your CITI Training and apply for IRB (human subject), IACUC (animal subject) or hazardous materials and biosafety approval.
Phase 3: Obtain Required Approvals
During this phase you will, if required, receive your completion certificate from CITI. You will obtain any necessary approvals from the IRB, IACUC and University Facilities for hazardous materials and biosafety.
You will also gain administrative approval for a routing packet that includes the completed OAG routing form, your draft proposal, final budget and other supporting documents. This packet should be delivered to the OAG at least 5 business days before your funding sponsor's application deadline.
Phase 4: OAG Review and Submission
The final phase of the process includes a review of your completed proposal and routing packet by the OAG. We will provide assistance with any proposal requirements that haven't been met. The OAG will then obtain University approval for your proposal and routing packet and submit it to your funding agency.
