An opportunity exists to create a new business with the mission of improving parking on the Regis University main campus.
The Plan for each team shall be submitted in a single document in a .pdf format to Karl Dakin, Executive Director of the Sullivan Chair for Free Enterprise, by email to kdakin@regis.edu.
Business specifications:
- The plan must provide a parking solution that which in any combination increases parking or decreases demand for parking on the Regis campus by a minimum of 500 individual parking spaces.
- The solution must work to the benefit of all students, faculty, staff and visitors.
- The solution must be implemented through the operation of a new business.
- Funding or revenue for the solution must come from a new source. No funding or revenue may come from the general budget of Regis University.
- Revenue from the business must cover all operating costs and pay back any money borrowed or invested within a fixed period of time.
- Regis University must not under any circumstance bear any legal or financial responsibility in the event of failure of the business.
- If a parking lot or other building is constructed on the Regis campus, title must be held free and clear by Regis University upon completion of construction.
- The solution must be fully implemented no later than December 31, 2013.
The Plan should include:
- A name for the business
- A statement of the goals of the business
- A list of milestones for the first 5 years of operation
- A five-year cash flow projection
- Analysis of whether the business should be a for profit or nonprofit organization
- A description of how Regis University students will hold management responsibility for the day to day operations of the business with governance by a board approved by the University
- Identification and analysis of all stakeholders in terms of benefits derived from operation of the business
- A description of each product and/or service that the business will produce and/or sell
- Identification of sources of funding necessary for the launch and growth of the business
Each Plan will be scored using a 100 point system in which points are allocated as follows:
Probability of Successful Implementation 60 points
Comprehensiveness of Plan 20 points
Clarity of Communication 20 points
The top four teams from each College, based upon scoring of the written plan, will make an oral presentation of 15 minutes each on April 25, 2012. Each oral presentation will be scored using a 100 point system in which points are allocated as follows:
Efficient use of Time 50 points
Compelling presentation of Plan 50 points
