Explore the outdoors with Regis’ Outdoor Adventure Program
Joseph Scheid, RC ’13, has always liked the outdoors. But since coming to Regis, he has turned that interest into a profound love and a way of life. His fondness for adventures has led him to climb mountains over 14,000 feet, mountain bike Moab and ski some of the best terrain in the world.
Regis University’s proximity to the Rocky Mountains gives students the opportunity to explore and experience Mother Nature like they may never have. The Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) at Regis lets students take advantage of where they are by providing them with access to free gear rentals, weekend trips, on-campus activities and day trips into the wilderness.
“For me, OAP was an avenue to do things I never imagined and it provided a platform to do them with experienced leaders. The program isn’t just for students with outdoor experience, but also for students who have never had the opportunity or resources before now,” says Scheid.
The student-guided program has arranged excursions to Canyonlands National Park and Moab, Utah, the Great Sand Dunes in southern Colo., the Grand Canyon, and even Costa Rica.
“The friendliness of people on campus and in OAP, has had a huge impact on my college experience at Regis. I look forward to continuing and sharing that tradition, and the skills I gained from OAP with new students,” says Scheid.
