Show Information

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is the biblical story of Joseph, who was given a coat of many colors by his father Jacob. It tells the story of Joseph's trials as he was sold into slavery by his eleven brothers, and his time in Egypt where he interpreted dreams for the Pharoah. It is his triumph over adversity, his forgiveness toward his brothers, and his reunion with his father Jacob that is the heart of the story, as told in the book of Genesis. Joseph...Dreamcoat is performed with modern flairs, spanning many different decades and styles of popular music that will entertain the masses for years to come.

Main Characters

Narrators
A woman not of the time or place of the action. The Narrator tells the story through word and song, guiding the audience gently through the story of Joseph and his brothers, usually gives meaning to the story with her/his words.

Jacob
The father of twelve sons, his favorite being Joseph. At times he may appear unfair and shallow, but he is, more importantly, the prophet who recognizes the future and the calling of Joseph, thus saving the House of Israel.

Joseph
Obviously his father’s favorite, Joseph early on shows a talent for interpreting dreams and telling the future. This gets him into trouble with his brothers when he predicts his future will include ruling over the other eleven. However, it saves his life when in Egypt he correctly interprets Pharaoh’s dreams. In the end he has risen to a great position of power, but he still forgives his brothers and brings his family to Egypt to partake of the bounty he has accumulated there.

Three Ladies
These multi-talented women appear in the play as many characters: Jacob’s wives, saloon girls, dancing girls, etc.

Ishmaelites
Men of the desert, they buy Joseph as a slave, take him to Egypt, and sell him to Potiphar.

Potiphar
A powerful and rich Egyptian, Potiphar purchases Joseph and puts him to work in his household, where he soon realizes that Joseph is honest, hard-working, and a great addition to his pool of help. When he grows suspicious of his wife and Joseph, however, he grows angry and has Joseph thrown into prison.

Mrs. Potiphar
Beautiful and scheming, Mrs. Potiphar tries to seduce Joseph, but is unsuccessful. However, she does manage to rip off much of his clothing just as her husband comes into the room, thus condemning him to prison.

Baker
One of Pharaoh’s servants, the Baker is in prison with Joseph who correctly interprets his dreams and predicts that he will be put to death.

Butler
Another of Pharaoh’s servants, the Butler is also in prison with Joseph who also correctly interprets his dreams, this time that he will be released and taken back into Pharaoh's household. It is the Butler who tells Pharaoh about Joseph and his uncanny ability with dreams.

Pharaoh
The most powerful man in Egypt, Pharaoh is considered a god on earth. When Joseph interprets his dreams, he promotes him to one of the highest positions in his government. In most productions, Pharaoh is portrayed as an Elvis style figure.

Josephs Brothers
Although acting usually as a group, they each have their own different personalities, talents, and flaws. As a group they sell Joseph into slavery, but as individuals they deal with the following years and how they can make amends. They sing and dance their way through many situations and places. The performers also double as Egyptians in many cases.

The Regis Ramblers

The Regis Ramblers is an all-inclusive musical theater club - casting and welcoming any students who express an interest in being involved in a production.  Student led and run, and managed by the Office of Student Activities, annual participation in the club tops 50 students.  In addition to cast members, the Regis Ramblers now includes a thriving technical crew comprised of skilled students who contribute their stagecraft expertise in lighting, sound, set design, props and all of the other areas critical to making a large scale musical production happen.  While students of all academic interests and majors make up the core of the production, the program has benefited from the continued growth of Regis' music department and the continued improvement of performance space that has come with that growth.

As alumni can attest, the Ramblers are proud of their ability to perform at a high level through a variety of challenging venues on the Regis campus, starting with the Science Amphitheater and continuing on for several years in the Student Center Dining Hall.  Beginning with the 2012-13 academic year the Ramblers are eager to perform in the beautiful new Mountain View Room in Claver Hall.

The Regis Ramblers look forward to many more years of providing musical theater entertainment for the Regis community and the Metro-Denver Community.

Where it all Began

The Regis Ramblers musical theater club was started in the fall of 1995, by Regis computer science professor Dr. Dennis Steele and his daughter, Shannan.  Shannan at that time was a student at Regis, and together they began what has become an important piece of the Regis experience for hundreds of students and alumni.  In the spring of 1996, the Ramblers performed their first musical to a sold out audience..."Li'l Abner".  The following years would bring new challenges, teamwork, and a collection of Ramblers alumni who have continued to support and be entertained by the thriving club to which they once belonged.

Since its beginning, Dr. Steele has been, and remains, the backbone of the club, continuing in the role of faculty sponsor. He has contributed as a music director, band member, set builder, and overall source of support for each and every production.  Shannan Steele has choreographed all but two of the annual productions and has served as director/choreographer/vocal music director for the majority of the shows Ramblers has produced. Shannan is a professional actress in the Denver area, starring in award winning productions at the Arvada Center and at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
