Regis University Institute on the Common Good offers lecture and workshop on leadership featuring author Margaret Benefiel

Donnie Veasey | February 15, 2013

(DENVER) – Author and speaker Margaret Benefiel will be the featured presenter at a Regis University Institute on the Common Good (ICG) lecture and workshop on leadership Feb. 21-22 in the Mountain View Room of St. Peter Claver, S.J., Hall at the University’s North Denver (Lowell) campus.

Benefiel’s lecture, titled The Soul of Leadership, is at 7 p.m. Feb. 21 while the day-long workshop, titled Discernment and Change in Tough Economic Times begins at 9 a.m., Feb. 22.  There is no charge to attend the lecture while a nominal charge of $20 will help cover the cost of snacks and lunch, notes Fredricka Brown of the ICG.  Both events are open to the public.

Benefiel teaches at Andover Newton Theological School in Boston and the Milltown Institute in Dublin, Ireland, and is CEO of ExecutiveSoul.com. Her lecture will focus on spiritual leadership at work. In 21st century Western culture, leaders are rewarded for their drive, decisiveness, productivity and long work hours. What would it look like for a leader to cultivate the inner life, to step off the treadmill, to take time apart for personal reflection? asks Benefiel.

The workshop will be experiential and interactive, with presentations interwoven with periods of reflection. The morning session will focus on decision-making and discernment, while the afternoon session will help participants identify individual and organizational goals they would like to achieve and discover how to break the grip of their immunity to change.

The ICG serves the community at-large by promoting the common good and providing a safe and effective space for community dialogue, communal discernment, and public deliberation. The Institute seeks to facilitate dialogue aimed at developing strategies to resolve important community issues.

For more information or to register for the workshop, contact Brown at fbrown@regis.edu or call 303-458-4967.
