The public is invited to attend her powerful talk, “Transformation Not Incarceration.†This powerful event will bring attention to the youth incarceration crisis in the United States and launch a broader dialogue about the different effects incarceration has in the lives of young people worldwide. The talk will begin at 6 p.m. in the St. John Francis Regis Chapel. This special event has been organized by the Institute on the Common Good in partnership with PeaceJam and the Center for Juvenile Justice.Rigoberta’s efforts for simple and basic human rights for the indigenous and aboriginal Indians of Guatemala has established her as one of the premier advocates of peace. Her work has gained international attention, helping to improve human rights and make history. In 1992, Menchu was the first indigenous and youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize.
