Non-repayable Funding

Scholarships and grants are awards based on academic performance, leadership potential, or other talent. Grants are usually awarded to students with financial need (based on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or some other criteria. Scholarships and grants do not have to be repaid. They may be federal, state, or institutional funds. Full-time enrollment is required for most scholarships, except the Federal Pell Grant, which is pro-rated for less than full-time enrollment.

CCLD Scholarship Application
The $1,500.00 scholarship is open to students currently enrolled in teacher-preparation programs. Applicants must have an overall-cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher in their Special Education coursework.

College Opportunity Fund

This program provides an amount of money per credit hour paid by the State of Colorado on behalf of eligible undergraduate resident students. The dollar amount of the stipend is set annually by the Colorado General Assembly; the per credit hour amount will be fifty percent (50%) of the amount set by the General Assembly for public institutions. The number of stipend credit hours is capped at 145 credit hours, with an additional 30 hours of undergraduate credits available. For Regis University undergraduate students the stipend will be awarded through the financial aid process.

To be eligible for the COF grant, undergraduate students at Regis University must:

  • apply for the stipend through the College Assist website
  • be a documented Colorado resident
  • be a graduate of a Colorado high school or has successfully completed a non-public home-based education program in Colorado or received a GED in Colorado
  • demonstrates financial need through the student’s eligibility for the Federal Pell Grant program (student must complete the FAFSA)
  • have authorized Regis to receive COF funding on his or her behalf
  • meets any other eligibility requirements established by the Colorado Commission on Higher Education (CCHE).

College Assist administers the COF program, and students need to apply at College Assist only once in their lifetime.

In order to document Colorado residency, students must complete a current Colorado Residency form. The Authorization to Request COF Stipends form is used to authorize Regis University to apply the student's COF stipends to his or her Regis student account, or to rescind authorization. This form needs to be completed only once while the student is attending Regis University.

Certain courses are not eligible for the COF stipend, such as high school fast track courses, basic skills courses, and graduate courses unless taken for an undergraduate degree.

Federal Pell Grant

This is a federally funded program for students with extreme financial need. Application is made by using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Federal legislation limits Federal Pell Grant funds to students who have not earned a bachelor's degree. The student's Expected Family Contribution, estimated costs, and enrollment status determine the amount of the Federal Pell Grant.

The Federal Pell Grant will be disbursed only if you have not already received the lifetime maximum amount which is the equivalent of twelve semesters full-time enrollment awards. The FAFSA processor will calculate the percentage amount you have received, and the maximum is capped at 600%. The percentage received is based on the annual award at full-time enrollment status. For example, if you are awarded full-time for the two semesters in the 2011-2012 academic year, the percentage used is 100%. If you are awarded for only 9 credits for two semesters, the percentage used for the academic year is 75%.

Federal TEACH Grant

The College Cost Reduction and Access Act of 2007 created the Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education (TEACH) Grant Program, which provides up to $4,000 per year ($16,000 total for 4-year programs) in grants to students who commit to teach 1) full-time, 2) in high-need subject areas, 3) for at least four years, 4) at schools that serve students from low-income families. Graduate students may be eligible for $4,000 per year ($8,000 total) with this same commitment to teach.

Scholarships are a very meaningful way to honor families, friends and loved ones.

Criteria for each scholarship is determined by the donor and selection is made by the Scholarship Committee of Regis University. Eligibility is based on merit and/or financial need. The Scholarship Committee uses information provided by students in the general application process including the FAFSA and academic records. Students are automatically considered for scholarship awards at the time of application; there is no separate application for these scholarships. On occasion, students may be asked to furnish additional information for selected scholarships. Scholarships are renewable for four years if the student maintains certain academic requirements and funding is available.

Beginning in Summer 2012, the Federal Pell Grant will be disbursed only if you have not already received the lifetime maximum amount which is the equivalent of twelve semesters full-time enrollment awards.

The FAFSA processor will begin to calculate the percentage amount you have received, and the maximum is capped at 600%. The percentage received is based on the annual award at full-time enrollment status. For example, if you are awarded full-time for the two semesters in the 2011-2012 academic year, the percentage used is 100%. If you are awarded for only 9 credits for two semesters, the percentage used for the academic year is 75%.

This cap on Federal Pell Grants was created by the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2012 (Public Law 112-74). This change affects all students regardless of when or where they received their first Federal Pell Grant. Students who are currently receiving the Federal Pell Grant in the 2011-2012 academic year and who have already used 600% of their Pell Grant eligibility will no longer be eligible to receive a Pell Grant starting Summer 2012.

Federal TEACH Grant
