Degree Overview

Regis University is proud to offer an innovative Master of Education in Educational Leadership program that gives experienced teachers the opportunity to support school administrators, advance their own careers and earn principal licensure in Colorado and Wyoming. Through this program you will explore the importance of responsible educational leadership including the critical aspects of supervision, mentoring and support, as well as school finance, law and assessment data. The curriculum connects theory and practice to field experience in the real world, preparing you to become an influential leader in education. 

Designed and taught by practicing professionals, the Educational Leadership program is available online and on campus.

A graduate license is dependent on the major of your bachelor's degree. If the level and area of license you are seeking does not correspond to your specific major, you may need to take additional undergraduate credits as required by Colorado or Wyoming laws and regulations for license.

MED-Ed Leadership for Innovation and Change

EDLS 643 - Capstone: Ed Leadership for Innov & Chng

Students prepare an applied project to include goal setting, decision-making and analysis, and self-evaluation and reflection. The applied project will provide documentary evidence of standards-based learning in order to quantify learning.

Pre-requisite: TAKE EDLS*670 AND EDLS*671 AND EDLS*672;

EDLS 670 - Introduction to Educational Leadership

Using current literature and case studies, candidates will study a variety of styles and strategies of leadership. A basis for study in this course involves the process of school improvement and staff development.

EDLS 671 - Instructional Strategies

Emphasizes instructional strategies focusing on how to teach, coach, and improve such techniques. Strong emphasis placed on strategies that have proven highly effective in this research. Prerequisite(s): Graduate standing.

EDLS 672 - Principles of Adult Learning

Provides the aspiring leader with the theoretical foundations, knowledge and tools of leading adult learners in professional and personal development in order to expand student learning and success.

EDLS 681 - Personnel Selection and Supervision

Provides a framework for evaluating teachers and surpervising personnel for the benefit of student achievement. Candidates will learn policies, the laws and ethics of supervision as they relate to hiring and disciplining personnel.

EDLS 683 - Practical Applications of Principalship

Focuses on a variety of tools and strategies essential to successfully navigating building administration, including dealing with routine matters and non-routine issues.

EDLS 684 - Curriculum Design & Implementation

Provides a framework for defining and establishing a rationale for a curriculum, understanding the purposes which direct curriculum designing and implementation, and processes used to design and implement curriculum.

Pre-requisite: TAKE EDLS*670 EDLS*671 AND EDLS*672;

EDLS 685 - Peer Mentoring and Support

Provides strategies to support the building leader in promoting professional growth and group dynamics while enhancing the performance of licensed and classified staff in an educational setting.

EDLS 687 - Managing Assessment Data

Provides an in-depth study of assessment and evaluation to include assessment purposes and guiding principles, achievement targets, assessment methods, characteristics of effective assessment, evaluation, feedback, and legal issues.

EDLS 688 - School Finance

Examines the concepts and theories of public school finance and how schools acquire, spend, and account for resources. Highlights practical fiscal and business aspects of planning and developing a school budget.

EDLS 689 - School Law

This course focuses on an understanding of legal rationale and principles. This course offers the optimal balance of case law, statutes, regulations, and commentary, providing knowledge of the law and useful guidance in understanding the meaning and application of the law in schools.

EDLS 695E-W - Internship: School Principal

Provides on-site experience and direct practice in the everyday issues of the principalship.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR APPLICATION AND ADMISSION

Applicants seeking a master's degree from the College for Professional Studies must possess a baccalaureate degree from a U.S. regionally accredited college or university.
  • Application: Completed graduate application form
  • Application fee: $75.00 non-refundable application fee (waived for Regis University graduates)
  • Submit official degree-bearing transcript from previously attended U.S. regionally accredited college or university. Official transcript must be sent directly from your previously attended school to the CPS Admission Office.
  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.75 on degree-bearing transcript with option of supplying additional coursework transcripts.
  • Critical analysis essay
  • Current résumé
  • One online recommendation form from a principal, colleague or supervisor who knows your work in a professional setting (observation form not required)
  • Copy of current teaching license
  • Three years of teaching experience required prior to starting the program
  • Additional admission requirements apply to international students who are non-U.S. citizens
  • Please remember: Applications that are incomplete and/or missing information will NOT be processed
  • Once registered in your first course, a $90 Task Stream fee will be applied toward your tuition. This fee is eligible for financial aid. Task Stream creates a webfolio where all evaluations, projects, papers and field hours are tracked in once place, which can be provided as a link to principals when you apply for teaching positions.
