Studies the legal and ethical issues involved in the management and delivery of health care services and the interrelations between hospital, physician, and patient. Emphasizes law as it pertains to negligence, contracts, consents, confidentiality, risk management and current medical/legal issues. Explores the use of the health record as a legal document, privacy rights, corporate compliance, and peer review. Examines release of information, quality of documentation, and retention of records issues. Provides a practical management exercise in international strategies, operations, finance and marketing, and ethics using a computer simulation. The simulation requires students to manage a global business from a system?s perspective.

Explores delivery of health care in the US, focusing on national policies, their rationale and effects. Relevant stakeholders, costs, legislative methods and intent, and comparisons with non-US health care systems are studied.
MBAH 603 Issues in Health Care Management (3.00)
Analyzes the effects of the following on the health care industry: venues for health care delivery, the pharmaceutical industry, legal issues unique to the health care industry, the medical device industry and its effect on health care. Discusses the future of health care in the US. Explores iatrogenic medicine and alternatives to allopathic care.
