DeSmet Hall

Building Community in the First Year: DeSmet Hall at a Glance

DeSmet Hall has a front desk that is staffed throughout the day, as well as Resident Assistants and Peer Ministers who serve the students in the building. DeSmet is a 4-story residence hall with close access to the Fitness Center, the Field House, the Pomponio Family Science Center, and the Dayton Memorial Library.  DeSmet Hall was named for Father Pierre DeSmet, S.J., who was a Jesuit missionary known for developing strong ties with many American Indian tribes of the mid-19th century.

DeSmet residents enjoy an environment that includes two different Living Learning Communities; C.O.R.E. and Magis. DeSmet is arranged in corridor-style living, and rooms  are distinct with their exposed brick walls.  Students enjoy having a central lounge on each floor, where students frequently watch late-night movies, enjoy programs put on by student staff members, and study with friends from DeSmet and other halls.

All of our residence rooms have carpet, venetian blinds, cable television access, internet access, microfridges (microwave and refrigerator unit), and, free local phone service.  All double-occupancy rooms include two beds,  desks, dressers, and closet spaces.

DeSmet Hall also includes a 24-hour computer lab and a cost-free laundry room. Each floor has a lounge equipped with new couches, a television, and a DVD player. The building is alcohol-free.

Please note that the beds in our residence halls are extra-long, so extra-long twin bedding will fit best.

DeSmet Hall boasts two different Living Learning Communities.  These communities comprise an average of 20 members and are both  considered co-ed, as LLC residents may reside on either the men’s or women’s side of the floor.  While communities are subject to relocation due to housing numbers, the two communities currently housed in DeSmet Hall are C.O.R.E. and Magis.

The Magis Experience

Magis (pronounced mah-jis) is a program offered to first-year students who are seeking more out of their first year experience than the traditional route. Magis is for students that are academically, socially, and community minded. These students participate in a weekly, year-long academic course for credit and participate in community service.

C.O.R.E. (COLORADO OUTDOOR RECREATION EXPERIENCE)

This community is intended for first-year students who have an interest in a variety of easy to moderate outdoor activities. Some examples of activities and programs include hiking, running, cycling, snowshoeing, climbing, skiing, snowboarding, trailblazing, and much more depending on the season. Students who are involved with this community can expect to live around those who share a passion for the outdoors.

The DeSmet Hall staff includes eight Resident Assistants, two Peer Ministers, several Desk Assistants, and an Assistant Resident Life Coordinator. Additionally, there is one Residence Life Coordinator, a full-time professional staff member who lives and works in DeSmet.  The residence hall staff works together to promote educational, social, and cultural development of Regis students. All staff members are trained in referring residents to the appropriate resources on campus, proving to be a great resource for first-year residents.  The staff also acts as role models to promote campus involvement, resident hall community, and faith development.

Joe Matelich
Residence Life Coordinator (RLC)

Rooms in DeSmet Hall are 12’ x 16’.  While furniture is originally set with desks, beds, and chests of drawers on resident’s respective sides of the room, many roommates choose to customize how their room looks by shifting the height of their beds and rearranging the furniture.  To view an interactive map of a DeSmet Hall student room, click on one of the links below.
